Cheryl Smith has been a part of our illustrious sisterhood since November 8, 1985. One of the many admirable things about Cheryl is regardless of her 27 years as an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman she still keeps her heart and mind open to change.
As Nu Iota Omega’s reining President she demonstrates incredible leadership abilities. She willingly participates in countless sorority functions, served as a delegate for the South Atlantic Regional conference as well as our Boule Conferences.
Volunteering to serve the community is something that comes natural to her. In the past year, Cheryl has collaborated with other local television journalists to raise funds (her passion is fundraising) for the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists. For example, local news anchors sold outfits, shoes and accessories to benefit scholarships and programming for young and aspiring journalists. She also volunteered her time to promote and man Nu Iota Omega chapter booth at the Tom Joyner Morning Show “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day”. Her other efforts for this event included alerting members in the media and personally extending an invitation to our International President, Mrs. Carolyn House Stewart, to attend the event. Needless to say Ms. House Stewart attended the event and had an awesome time!
Cheryl demonstrates a sisterly attitude, dedication to the chapter and to the community but most of all continuously gives of herself to be of service to all mankind. We salute our 2012 Soror of the Year, Soror Cheryl Smith.
